Where can I get a copy of the latest QLD Fire Safety Regulation?
You can view a copy of the current regulation here.

Who is responsible for the building's fire compliance?
Compliance is the responsibility of the building occupier (business owner), not the building owner.

How many evacuation signs will my business need?
An evacuation sign is required at or near each designated building exit. This includes ground level exit doors, upper level exit doors and internal staircases. Roller doors are not regarded as exit doors.

What is the correct orientation of evacuation signs?
All signs should be oriented specifically to their proposed location in the building. When viewing the sign, the section of the sign above the "You Are Here" should show the area ahead of the viewer and the section of the plan below the "You Are Here" should show the area behind the viewer. For example, if the evacuation route arrow points up, the viewer should proceed forward to follow the correct evacuation route.

Am I required to have evacuation signs, even if I'm only a small business?
Yes. All business premises are required to be compliant with the current regulation, small or large.

If my business is not currently compliant, what will happen?
Businesses found not to be compliant with the new legislation are subject to fines of up to $5000 per breach.
